Hi,
Firstly: I hope you are well.
Secondly: I started something new.
Below, I share a poem with you I wrote for someone else.
I ask people to share something that is important to them so that I can write about it. A specific theme, something that they are experiencing or feeling. Or something that is simply important to them.
I believe that everything we experience is both uniquely personal and collective at the same time. Writing for others connects me with those I write for, with myself, with something collective, and with everyone else recognizing a part of themselves in the words.
The process of someone sharing a theme and chatting about it to get more clarity is enlightening!
Below you find the poem. If you want me to write for you, I would be honoured to do so! Just reply to this email. We will chat via WhatsApp about it.
I wrote this for Krizia, from The Philippines. She asked me to write about a mother's love for her children. How at first, you do not think you can do it, but you manage anyway, not only the first time but also the 2nd and 3rd time. The complexity of the journey. The fear and the excitement and everything in between.
I am your mother. Indefinitely.
the day you were born
a new layer of me
grew into my being
like the oak tree
that grows a ring
I grow one for each year
you are here
I will give you water
but can not prevent
dry spells from coming in
parching your skin
I will give you shelter
but can not prevent
storms from coming over
raging your being
I will worry
if the winds will catch you
I will wonder
if I should keep you nearer
but will not cast a shadow
that keep you from catching
the sun’s rays
that allow you to bloom
into your own being
I will wonder
what you grow into
an oak, a pine, a teak maybe
I’m just here
to help you become
what you were already
meant to be
I will trust the thunderstorms
shall not knock you over
make you strong
stand sturdy
into your being
I will carry them all
the fear, the joy,
the laughter and the worry
my love can not flow
without my fear
wanting you near
my joy can not be
without my worry
of letting you go
I am your mother. Indefinitely.
Ps. I want you to know that if you ever need a friend, a chat or simply a presence you can always reply to my email. I’m here. We are in this thing called life together. 😘
